Jerry Jaffe has spent most of his life in the performing arts. He’s a director, actor, writer, teacher, and stand-up comedian who has directed more than 100 plays and worked in everything from community theater and professional theater to avant-garde productions around the world. Jerry and I first met doing community theater, but as I discovered during this conversation, there was a whole lot about his story that I didn't know.We talk about his years living and working in Japan and New Zealand, performing with a professional Japanese theater company, his experiences with stand-up comedy, and his book Religious Satire in the Era of New Atheism. Jerry also shares the story behind the one-person show he's developing about his experience with thyroid cancer, and, of course, we have to talk about the time he accidentally became a snake in front of hundreds of people in Japan.This is a conversation about theater, comedy, creativity, and all the unexpected places a life in the arts can take you.

He is also a screenwriter and a playwright. He has won awards both as a performer and as a writer.What started as a way to have conversations with interesting people has grown into Scene And Heard, where Jim sits down with actors, musicians, filmmakers, and other creatives to talk about their work, how they got there, and the stories behind what they do.When he's not making the podcast, Jim is probably watching something, listening to something, working on something, or thinking about the next thing he can turn into a podcast.
